What is Cutting it Fine?

The aims of this short film competition are:

  • To promote Bristol as a filmmaking hub despite the recent downturn in film & TV job opportunities across the sector.
  • To promote a competitive platform where professional filmmakers in Bristol can produce, film and edit their short films over the course of a weekend.
  • To be the inaugural free annual competition of its type, showcasing Bristol’s talent and a networking opportunity for industry professionals in a quick turnaround work environment.

The ‘production teams’ can either be assembled themselves or we will help with this process. They will all mirror a professional production model with small teams of people, including the Producer, Director, DOP, Editor, Sound Recordist and Runners.

Why are we doing it?

It’s an opportunity to reignite the spirit of filmmaking in Bristol, bringing together talented professionals, students and emerging creatives to collaborate in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. By promoting the city as a film hub and offering a unique platform for local talent, we aim to showcase the depth of creativity and innovation within the Bristol film and TV industry. This event is a celebration of passion, collaboration, and the art of filmmaking, all set against the backdrop of one of the UK’s most exciting creative hubs. We invite you to be a part of this exciting journey, where new connections are made, ideas are brought to life, and lasting memories are created.
