The 48-Hour Film Challenge is an intense and exciting weekend where filmmaking teams have just 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film from scratch. It's a creative sprint – no pre-filming or writing allowed!
The flag off event will be in The Watershed Bar from 5:30pm on the 3rd July 2026. The deadline for submitted films is Sunday 7th July @7pm sharp! The screening will be at The Arnolfini event space on Tuesday 7th July @7pm
This is a shot film competition designed to help the industry as a whole in Bristol, therefore we ask that you are over 18 and a professional working in the Bristol area in order to take part
We are recommending a nominal crew of around 7 people (director, camera, sound, editing, lighting, runners etc), but no more than 10 people (not including any on screen talent)
Yes – teams are responsible for all their own gear (cameras, microphones, laptops, etc.). We do not provide production equipment, but can provide guidance as more partners are brought on-board.
A line of dialogue/text (to be used as is or in a creative fashion), a choice of location and a prop will be drawn from a bucket by each team at the flag off.
Nope! All writing, shooting, and editing must take place within the 48-hour window. You can bring your own actors, props, and gear – but no pre-written scripts or pre-recorded footage allowed.
By 7pm Sunday 5th July you must upload your film to the platform announced at the flag off. Late entries may still be screened but will be ineligible for awards.
Yes! There will be a screening and awards night on Tuesday 7th July at 7pm in The Arnolfini screening theatre in the centre of Bristol. A panel of guest judges will join us to celebrate the work and creativity of all the teams involved.
