F.A.Q
Want to know more? then look no further!
  • What is the 48-Hour Film Challenge?
    • The 48-Hour Film Challenge is an intense and exciting weekend where filmmaking teams have just 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film from scratch. It's a creative sprint – no pre-filming or writing allowed!
  • When and where is it happening?
    • The flag off event will be in The Watershed Bar from 5:30pm on the 3rd July 2026. The deadline for submitted films is Sunday 7th July @7pm sharp! The screening will be at The Arnolfini event space on Tuesday 7th July @7pm
  • Who can participate?
    • This is a shot film competition designed to help the industry as a whole in Bristol, therefore we ask that you are over 18 and a professional working in the Bristol area in order to take part
  • How many people can be on a team?
    • We are recommending a nominal crew of around 7 people (director, camera, sound, editing, lighting, runners etc), but no more than 10 people (not including any on screen talent)
  • Do we bring our own equipment?
    • Yes – teams are responsible for all their own gear (cameras, microphones, laptops, etc.). We do not provide production equipment, but can provide guidance as more partners are brought on-board.
  • What’s provided at the Flag off?
    • A line of dialogue/text (to be used as is or in a creative fashion), a choice of location and a prop will be drawn from a bucket by each team at the flag off.
  • How long should the final film be?
    • Films must be no more than 5 minutes, including credits.
  • Can we prepare anything in advance?
    • Nope! All writing, shooting, and editing must take place within the 48-hour window. You can bring your own actors, props, and gear – but no pre-written scripts or pre-recorded footage allowed.
  • How do we submit our film?
    • By 7pm Sunday 5th July you must upload your film to the platform announced at the flag off. Late entries may still be screened but will be ineligible for awards.
  • Will the films be shown?
    • Yes! There will be a screening and awards night on Tuesday 7th July at 7pm in The Arnolfini screening theatre in the centre of Bristol. A panel of guest judges will join us to celebrate the work and creativity of all the teams involved.
